MILAN (ITALY) / BIRMINGHAM (UK) March 27/13, 2012 – Natural substances such as CO2 (R744) have become of increasing importance in refrigeration in order to decrease the greenhouse effect. Emerson Climate Technologies has developed new products to meet the needs of CO2 applications.
One of those products is the ‘Stream’ series. This new range of 4 cylinder Copeland® semi-hermetic compressors designed for medium temperature R744 transcritical applications complements the recently-launched Stream range for HFC refrigerants. As the most efficient compressor in its class, it reduces indirect emissions. Integrating this new development, Emerson offers three models with refrigerating capacities between 20 kW and 38 kW*. Stream CO2 compressors are characterized by a design pressure of 135 bar. Refrigerant flow and heat transfer have been optimized for best performance. All compressor models of the Stream family are released for operation with frequency inverters and feature CoreSense™ Diagnostics, compressor-based electronics that provides advanced compressor protection and diagnostics for improved system reliability, reduced service costs and increased equipment uptime. With CoreSense™ technology service engineers can now diagnose system-related problems faster or even before they occur in order to keep refrigeration systems in optimum condition over their entire lifetime. The diagnostics module stores compressor asset and runtime information and offers the possibility to monitor individual compressor power.
The CO2-technology provides solutions for low-temperature applications. The market has already adopted the Copeland Scroll™ compressors from the ZO series. ZO compressors are specially designed to meet the high pressure and severe lubrication requirements encountered in subcritical CO2 applications. The range covers refrigeration capacities from 7 to 23 kW nominal cascade system rating conditions** with five standard models ZO34K3E to ZO104KCE and one Copeland Scroll Digital™ model ZOD104KCE. They are the ideal solution for medium temperature cascade and booster systems, particularly when combined with Emerson’s Stream range for CO2 transcritical.
The refrigeration circuit is rounded off by the CX electronic high pressure expansion valve for liquid injection duty for hot gas bypass. CX series are stepper motor driven valves for precise control of CO2 refrigerant mass flow. They are available for four capacities (CX4 to CX7) and can be used with Emerson’s EXD-controllers to control the high pressure in a CO2 gas cooler for example. These valves are characterized by a design pressure of 171 bar and a MOP of 120 bar. Being a positive shut-off of valve CX is also the right solution to eliminate the use of an additional solenoid valve.
With its extensive product range, Emerson Climate Technologies supports the food retail sector in meeting its environmental responsibilities. Each store operator therefore has the option of cooling their fresh produce the natural way.
