Valves for CO2 refrigeration systems

Valves for CO2 refrigeration systems
  • Pressure rating for EX valves up to 60 bar
  • For CO2 subcritical systems
  • Extension of product portfolio for natural refrigerants

AACHEN, GERMANY, April 22, 2013 – CO2 is a well-accepted alternative refrigerant for commercial cooling. It can be used in a booster system as well as in a cascade system. For these applications, Emerson Climate Technologies has upgraded the maximum working pressure for the EX4, EX5, EX6 and EX7 product line to 60 bar. This new maximum working pressure of the stepper-motor driven valves will satisfy market requirements, especially with respect to standstill pressure conditions in CO2 subcritical systems. Each valve is factory tested at 66 bar pressure and has to withstand 300 bar burst pressure. The housing of the motor and valve assembly is made from stainless steel and is fully hermetic, utilizing exclusive brazing and laser welding technologies thereby eliminating all gaskets. This design offers several technical advantages such as proportional linear mass flow and a wide range from 3 to 670 kW nominal capacities for CO2. Another common feature of all electrically driven EX valves is the positive shut-off function, which eliminates the need for additional solenoid valves. Besides CO2 these valves are applicable for all other usual refrigerants.

Emerson Climate Technologies offers EX valves for subcritical and CX valves for transcritical CO2 applications as well as drivers and superheat controllers for all electrically driven control valves. To complete a CO2 system, Copeland Scroll™ compressor and semi-hermetic Stream compressors as well as the Traxoil electronic oil level management OM4 are also available.
