Copeland™ compressors for R407F

AACHEN, GERMANY, October 31, 2012 - To date more than 350 installations across Europe are already using the new refrigerant R407F. In early 2011 collaborative R407F trials between end users consultants, installers, Honeywell and Emerson Climate Technologies took place in several countries including the UK, France, Poland, and Hungary. The positive results in terms of system efficiency improvements obtained in the trials, that were carried out with Copeland Scroll™ in medium and low temperature applications led to the release of all Copeland Scroll compressors from 2-6 HP for this new refrigerant. Eighteen models are available for medium and low temperature applications (ZB, ZF) including Digital Scroll™ modulation (ZBD).

Now all Copeland™ semi-hermetic Stream compressors are released for R407F for medium temperature applications, too. The release covers all 4 and 6 cylinder Stream standard models including inverter applications as well as Stream Digital. This enables end-users to benefit from all Copeland compressor technology with R407F.

Going to R407F appears to be a good alternative to R404A as it has a similar cooling capacity while reducing the GWP of an installation and improving the system overall energy efficiency by at least 10%. In addition it can be used in low temperature so it has all the properties to be an excellent option for retrofitting existing installations as well.

Another conclusion is that R407F constitutes a good alternative to R134a from a capital cost standpoint for hybrid cascade systems using CO2 in the low temperature circuit. These cost reductions arise when R407F is used alternatively to R134a in medium temperature circuits. Emerson Climate Technologies’ selection software Select 7.6 contains all performance, electrical and mechanical data of each approved compressor.
