MILWAUKEE, March 13, 2012 — Emerson Climate Technologies, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR), today announced it is presenting at the International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration’s (IIAR) 2012 Industrial Refrigeration Conference and Exhibition March 18–21 in Milwaukee, Wis., at the Frontier Airlines Center. Technical experts from Vilter, a business of Emerson Climate Technologies, will present the following two technical papers:
Dennis W. Doody, Project Manager at Vilter, will present the first technical paper: “NFPA 70E Regulatory Compliance — Protecting Employees From Arc Flash Hazards.”
According to the National Electrical Contractors Association, an electrical injury can occur within a “few milliseconds.” In addition, a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health study estimates five to 10 arc flash explosions occur every day in the United States. And, according to NIOSH, during an arc flash, “temperatures as high as 35,000F have been recorded.” Given this backdrop, Doody’s presentation will cover the practical considerations for motor starter design changes that address electrical safety in the workplace. Attendees will learn of the equipment design changes that keep employees safer and help employers comply with NFPA 70E regulatory safety requirements regarding arc flash hazards.
The second technical paper: “Sustainability in Practice: An Ammonia Heat Pump Case Study” will be presented by Mark Stencel, Vice President & General Manager at Vilter; Don Stroud, Infrastructure Program Manager at Kraft Foods Global; and Sam Gladis, Business Director - Heat Pumps at Vilter.
Globally, the food and beverage industry’s need for energy efficiency and water savings is growing. More than 90% of the energy consumed for refrigeration is wasted as heat rejected to the atmosphere. However, industrial heat pumps can capture that wasted heat and significantly lower a plant’s energy and water consumption. Installing heat pumps to capture waste heat from industrial processes is increasingly popular in Europe, largely because the heat they deliver far exceeds the energy they consume, greatly reducing the reliance on fossil fuels. Attendees will discover how the design and operation of food and beverage processing plants of the future will be adapted to capitalize on the benefits of industrial heat pumps.
“The IIAR conference is an exceptional educational and networking forum for the industrial refrigeration industry,” said Dave Bersaglini, Vice President, Marketing and Business Development, Vilter. “We are honored to share our experiences and the knowledge we’ve acquired with our peers.”
The technical presenters from Vilter will be available before and after each presentation in booths #222, 224 and 226.
