Emerson Climate Technologies Highlights Refrigerant Issues and Trends at ATMOsphere America 2014

Leading experts weigh in on scroll compressor technology, ammonia heat pumps at third annual conference

ST. LOUIS, July 14, 2014 — Emerson Climate Technologies, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR), announced the participation of two leading Emerson experts, Andre Patenaude and Sam Gladis, at the ATMOsphere America 2014 conference. This two-day conference enabled professionals with an interest in natural refrigerants to come together through panel discussions, presentations and workshops to discuss case studies, upcoming technologies, regulations and best practices.

Patenaude’s presentation covered the first North America-built Copeland Scroll transcritical CO2 booster rack and its benefits, which include lower compression ratios for CO2 compressors when compared to HFC systems. Additional benefits include: reduced maintenance costs; increased system uptime; reduced food loss; and historical data for trips, alarms, run hours and starts. Gladis covered the use of industrial ammonia heat pumps in cheese processing. He used a case study of a cheese processing facility to demonstrate a cost savings of nearly $500,000 and utility incentives totaling more than $700,000.

“This conference continues to offer valuable content as well as an opportunity to share industry knowledge among peers and customers,” said Patenaude, director, CO2 business development of Emerson Climate Technologies. “We have to continue to communicate the issues, benefits and advancements in technology that are critical to the success of adopting the use of natural refrigerants.

”The third year of ATMOsphere America was its most highly attended year to date and included more than 60 presentations.
