Emerson Climate Technologies to Present at AHRI’s Low-GWP AREP Conference on January 16

Session will review compressor tests with low-GWP refrigerants for the air conditioning and commercial refrigeration markets

ST. LOUIS, Jan. 8, 2013 — Emerson Climate Technologies, a business segment of Emerson (NYSE: EMR), announced two of its engineers, Hung Pham and Autumn Nicholson, will present an educational session reviewing different compressor tests using low-global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants available for air conditioning and refrigeration applications.

The presentation will take place on Jan. 16, 2014, in New York, prior to the annual ASHRAE Winter Conference as part of the Air Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute’s (AHRI) Low-GWP Alternative Refrigerants Evaluation Program (AREP). This industry-wide cooperative research program identifies and evaluates promising alternative refrigerants for major product categories, including air conditioners, heat pumps, chillers, ice makers and refrigeration equipment.

Emerson will share insights on compressor performance evaluation for low-GWP refrigerants with program attendees. For instance, compressor test results for high-glide refrigerants at mid-point relate better to actual system performance when compared to dew point. Also, a compressor test evaluation alone may not be sufficient and should be accompanied by a system evaluation.

Pham, who serves as director of integrated technologies at Emerson Climate Technologies Inc., has more than 35 years of experience with HVAC/R system technology, including refrigerants, components and control strategies. He is actively involved with industry technical committees in AHRI, ASHRAE and the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA), as well as regulatory organizations such as the Department of Energy and the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy.

Nicholson, a senior sales engineer, has been with Emerson Climate Technologies, Inc. since 2006. She started as a co-op in the refrigeration application engineering and compressor engineering groups, and most recently, her role has been as a sales engineer for refrigeration customers. Her work focuses on compressor and refrigeration system energy and TEWI analysis, with a focus on refrigerant alternatives and/or system architecture. She earned her bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Dayton.

Emerson’s AREP presentation is the latest in a series of professional programs about emerging environmentally sensitive refrigerants offered by Emerson Climate Technologies. Other conference presentations from Emerson include; ATMOsphere America, the International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration, the International Compressor Engineering Conference at Purdue University, the Multiunit Foodservice Equipment Symposium, and the Advancing Ozone and Climate Protection Technologies Conference.
