Installation 

In selection and sizing, the typical method would be to match the horsepower rating, rpm, voltage and amp draw.  If in the case you have matched the hp rating, rpm and voltage to an equivalent RESCUE EcoTech motor rating but the amp draw of the PSC motor seems too high (more than 20%) from the RESCUE EcoTech rating, it is likely that the OEM motor is stronger than what is indicated on the nameplate.  Double check the original capacitor rating,  if it is 50% higher than what is usually used for that hp rating you may need to step up to the next horsepower.  Use the table below as a guide:

The RESCUE EcoTech® motor has 5 different speed taps you can utilize to get the required CFM for your system. However, if the highest speed tap is still not enough to get the right temperature delta or CFM for your system, you may need to step up to the next horsepower rating. It may be the case that the PSC motor is stronger than indicated on the nameplate. Check the chart above to verify which RESCUE EcoTech motor rating should be used.

The actual difference in CFM will vary based upon the size of the PSC motor that is replaced. In just one example, when comparing a ½ hp PSC to a ½ hp RESCUE EcoTech motor, with both motors providing equivalent airflow at .5” of static pressure, at .9” of static the RESCUE EcoTech motor was providing almost 132 CFM greater airflow than the PSC motor.

For system control boards that do not have a discrete fan speed terminal, a Y-harness adapter for fan control is provided to enable a direct tap to supply voltage. There will be 3 options of wiring the fan setting that can be found on pages 14-18 of the Emerson RESCUE EcoTech Installation Manual.

The Y-harness is included with the RESCUE EcoTech® motor to facilitate the connection of the motor’s low circulation speed tap in the event the system control does not have a terminal specifically for continuous fan. The Y-harness also provides a very slight voltage drop on the low speed tap, ensuring the current favors the higher speed taps when there is a call for "Heating" or "Cooling", allowing the RESCUE EcoTech motor to easily detect when those speed taps are energized.

The RESCUE EcoTech motor will not trip on overload like a typical PSC motor. The advanced electronics will simply allow the motor to operate at a reduced output if the horsepower rating of the RESCUE EcoTech motor is too small for the application; which in turn will provide inadequate CFM. In such a case, it is recommended that you step up to the next higher horsepower rating.
