General Information 

The RESCUE EcoTech motor is available in both the US and Canada through any HVAC wholesalers offering Emerson HVACR Motor products.

RESCUE EcoTech motors are compatible with most residential furnace and air handler systems that utilize a PSC 6-pole (1075 RPM) direct-drive blower motor. Both 115V and 230V ratings are available and the motor will mount into most belly-band style mounts. In addition, with the use of our Kit #44, the 1/3 and 1/2 hp ratings will also replace flex-mount motors.

The RESCUE EcoTech motor design is based upon our existing UltraTech™ variable speed motor technology currently used in a number of OEM applications with one important difference. Our patented motor control allows use of the high voltage speed taps directly from a PSC furnace or air handler control board to both power the motor and control the speed (based on which tap is energized), providing an available five discrete speed settings with no 24V or signal leads required. This means the RESCUE EcoTech motor has the efficiency of a variable speed motor but is as easy to install as a traditional PSC motor.

The RESCUE EcoTech motor is designed to behave in a similar manner to that of a PSC (AC induction motor) but provide the efficiency of an electronically controlled motor (ECM). With its patented motor design, the motor can be connected directly to the high voltage speed taps found on common furnace and air handler control boards, providing a retrofit solution for existing HVAC systems. The UltraTech motor, on the other hand, is designed as a serial communicating motor that works with the ClimateTalk® communication protocol for the entire HVAC system. With such communications, the motor provides advanced diagnostics capability which can verify airflow and communicate motor-related errors to the system control. The UltraTech motor is available in original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) HVAC systems only.

All leads, one for each of the five available speeds, pass through a patented sensor system. As a specific lead is energized by a relay on the system control board (either 115 or 230 volts, depending on the system), the motor starts to spin at a preset speed. The sensor assembly determines which of the five taps is carrying the current, and then signals the motor control which responds by operating at the specified output for that lead. The RESCUE EcoTech® motor is designed to provide a constant torque output; therefore each speed tap is programmed with a torque specific rating as opposed to an RPM.  The highest speed tap is set at 100% torque output and should provide approximately 1140 RPM at rated horsepower for that particular motor.  The actual RPM output will depend on a variety of factors; include size of the blower wheel and static pressure of the system.  It is also this constant torque operation that provides the active airflow management feature of the RESCUE EcoTech motor.

Since each of the five leads corresponds with a specific speed output, the RESCUE EcoTech motor provides a wide range of available speeds including a low 600 RPM circulation speed. The speed settings corresponding with each tap cannot be changed.

The RESCUE EcoTech motor can be up to 82% electrically efficient.

The high efficiency design of RESCUE EcoTech motor can provide upwards of 29% reduction in watts at full load. In continuous fan, the reduction in watts can be as much as 70%. Actual watts saved will depend on horsepower rating and blower load.

All RESCUE EcoTech motors use ball bearings which are pre-lubricated to last the lifetime of the motor.
