Tax Credits Are Back for High Efficiency AC and Heating Equipment

On January 1, 2013, Congress finally approved legislation to avoid the much publicized, “fiscal cliff”.  In addition to its many provisions dealing with our future tax rates, the bill also retroactively reinstated the 25C tax credits for years 2012 and 2013 for the purchase of high-efficiency HVAC and water heating equipment which had expired at the end of 2011. Homeowners can now enjoy an aggregate tax credit of up to $500 for the qualified equipment purchases made in 2011, 2012, and 2013 combined. The reinstatement of these tax credits may influence consumers to purchase higher efficiency HVAC appliances which often include other benefits that consumers should consider. Higher efficiency AC and heating equipment can provide superior comfort, lower energy bills and also contributes to a cleaner environment.

As a reminder, geothermal system tax credits are unaffected by this recent legislation and tax incentives remain in place as is through December 13, 2016.
