Popular compressor in high-efficiency heat pumps now offers 20% turndown improvement
ST. LOUIS, January 22, 2013 – Following its successful production launch in 2011, the Copeland Scroll™ variable speed compressor has delivered improved efficiency and energy savings, while garnering industry awards and being embraced by OEMs and contractors. The compressor, developed by Emerson Climate Technologies, Inc., a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR), has now been improved even further to offer 20% more capacity turndown to 1500 rpm, which translates to greater comfort and energy savings for homeowners.
Designed for high efficiency heat pump and air conditioning systems, Emerson’s Copeland Scroll variable speed compressor has been popular with contractors, who have seen the installed heat pumps achieve an unprecedented 13 HSPF (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor), 20+ SEER efficiency, as well as up to 40% greater year-round energy savings for their customers over standard heat pumps.
“When we launched the Copeland Scroll variable speed compressor, we made several bold claims about its efficiency levels and energy savings potential. After time in the field, what we are hearing from OEMs and contractors has exceeded our expectations,” said Brandy Powell, vice president of variable speed for Emerson Climate Technologies Air Conditioning business. “We have a proven case study where homeowners in Florida are saving 30-42% on their energy bills, while enjoying improved comfort with a 25% drop in humidity. Even with these positive results, we strive for ways to be better, and that’s what drove us to develop a 20% improvement in turndown capacity.”
Due to increased interest in high efficiency systems by both contractors and homeowners, the company has developed the Emerson e-Saver™ mobile app that helps contractors quickly calculate and show homeowners the annual cost savings of high efficiency systems. Contractors input current system efficiency standards, along with their considered replacement option for comparison. The Emerson e-Saver mobile app allows for these system options to be compared to current industry minimum standards, as well as a high efficiency heat pump featuring the Copeland Scroll variable speed compressor.
The industry’s emphasis on efficiency has helped the Copeland Scroll variable speed compressor win a number of industry awards, including the Dealer Design Award, The AHR Innovation Award and, along with its OEM partners, recognition as a Top 50 Product by GreenBuilder and Appliance Design magazine’s Excellence in Design Award.
