CoreSense™ Electronics Platform Uses Copeland™ Compressors as a Sensor; Innovative Technology Unveiled at AHR Expo
ST. LOUIS, February 1, 2011 – Emerson Climate Technologies, Inc., a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR), today launched its new compressor electronics platform, CoreSense™ technology. The launch of CoreSense technology advances Emerson’s “smart compressor” strategy using the compressor as a sensor, which includes on-board modules for select new compressor lines. Found only in Copeland™ compressors, this electronics platform enhances compressor and system performance by sensing and interpreting information found inside the compressor, providing new levels of diagnostics, protection, and communication.
In developing CoreSense compressor technology, Emerson sought to identify pain points throughout the distribution channel and drive technology that would extend system and compressor life, drive down maintenance costs, reduce system failures, and decrease warranty claims.
CoreSense technology strengthens Copeland compressors by unlocking advanced capabilities for communication, diagnostics, protection, and verification, which enhances compressor and system performance.
“Emerson launched the concept of compressor electronics eight years ago when our engineers developed a method to use the compressor as a sensor to detect system and electrical problems. Since then, we have brought products to the HVACR market that help diagnose system problems before severe compressor damaging faults occur,” said Ed Purvis, business leader of Emerson Climate Technologies. “Providing access to valuable information is the key. This advancement not only improves the reliability of our products; ultimately, it can enhance the overall operation or performance of the air conditioning or refrigeration system.”
Emerson is expected to release new compressors, featuring CoreSense technology on-board. Coming soon to the commercial air conditioning market, Copeland Scroll™ with CoreSense Communications provides compressor data to a commercial system controller, allowing technicians to troubleshoot remotely and prepare for a job in advance. Copeland Discus™ compressors with CoreSense Protection alert technicians to the most serious faults first so they can accurately and rapidly correct problems and prevent catastrophic compressor failures in supermarket or foodservice refrigeration. CoreSense Diagnostics for Copeland Scroll compressors, a standalone module that can be installed in new or existing systems, is designed to proactively protect compressors and help contractors troubleshoot residential air conditioning system failures.
CoreSense technology gives contractors, facility maintenance and building owners access to information inside the compressor so they can identify performance issues quickly and accurately to ensure greater reliability. When adverse operating conditions are detected, CoreSense shuts down the compressor to help avoid system damage, saving contractors, homeowners and businesses alike, valuable time and money.
