The Emerson Cup 2012 Reveals Innovative Energy-Saving Ideas from India and Southeast Asia

Entries from India and Southeast Asia in The Emerson Cup 2012 awards position the region as one of the leaders in creative energy-saving concepts.

HYDERABAD, India, November 01, 2012 - The high level of entries from India and Southeast Asia in The Emerson Cup 2012 awards, the annual event organized by Emerson Climate Technologies to recognize outstanding innovations and energy-efficient design in the air-conditioning and refrigeration industry, reveal that the region is a world-leader in green energy thinking.

Projects from Malaysia, Indonesia and India took the top three awards in the professional categories of The Emerson Cup 2012, while universities in the Philippines and India won the two awards in the engineering and architecture student categories respectively. Presentation of the awards for The 5th Emerson Cup – India and Southeast Asia took place on October 31, 2012 at Hyderabad, India.

“The extremely high quality of the entries reflects the important contribution that  green buildings’ specialists have in this region of the world,” said Giovanni Zullo, Vice President Marketing & Planning, Asia Pacific,  Emerson Climate Technologies, addressing the presentation ceremony. “Improvement in energy efficiency and reduction of wasteful and damaging emissions is continually being allied to the growing sophistication of building design and technology, the return on investment for owners, and the greater comfort and wellbeing of building users”, he continued.

A total of 72 projects had been entered for The Emerson Cup 2012, and a panel of distinguished specialists from the air conditioning and green building industry had judged these.

There had been five award categories for The Emerson Cup 2012: New Building; New Building – With Emerson Technology; Retrofit; Commercial Refrigeration and Students – Engineering and Architecture.

Ahmad Izdihar bin Supaat of Primetech Engineers Sdn Bhd, from Malaysia, won the Excellence Award in the ‘New Building’ category for the Energy Commission Diamond Building. Ashish Rakheja of Spectral Services Consultants Pvt Ltd, India, won an Honorary Award for the Eco Commercial Building. Another Honorary Award in ‘New Building’ category was presented to Green Initiatives Team of Infosys Mysore, India for the Infosys Hyderabad project. As a special recognition for an outstanding and innovative project, Special Mention award was presented to Project Prana by Sharukh Mistry of Mistry Architects.

John Budi Listijono of PT Metropolitan Bayu Industi, Indonesia, won the Excellence Award in the ‘New Building – With Emerson Technology’ category for the Holy Stadium in Semarang. Pankaj Khullar of ENAR Consultants in India won the Honorary Award in the same category for the Laxmi Kumaran Office-cum-Residence project.

In the Retrofit category, Infosys Mysore, India, won the Excellence Award for their Global Education Centre, while Ujjal Majumdar of Jaypee Vasant Continental, India, won the Excellence Award for the Jaypee Vasant Continental project.

Allan C Liguan from the University of the Philippines won the Excellence Award in the ‘Student Engineering’ category for the Design of an Energy Efficient Engineering University Complex utilizing Thermal Energy Storage A/C System project, while Madhur Goyal from Madhav Institute of Technology & Science, India, won the Excellence Award in the ‘Students Architecture’ category for the Green & Sustainable School project.emrsn
