Emerson Climate Technologies Introduces Copeland Scroll™ Technology For Home And Small Office Users In India

Copeland Scroll™ Compressors Will Power 2-Ton Split Air Conditioners This Summer In India, Enabling Higher Energy Efficiency Rating And Lower Lifetime Cost Of Ownership

PUNE, March 12, 2012:  Emerson Climate Technologies (India) Ltd., a business of Emerson Climate Technologies, announced today that it has introduced scroll technology in the residential air conditioning market in India. Copeland Scroll™ compressors have proven to be an essential element in improving the energy efficiency and reliability of air conditioning systems.  Today, Emerson is designing India-specific Copeland Scroll™ compressors down to 2-ton capacity for split air conditioning units. Copeland Scroll™ compressors are now being utilized in the production of air conditioners built by some of the major original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in India, such as Blue Star, Carrier, Hitachi, and LG.  It is the first time that this technology has been made available for home and small office markets, giving Indian users access to a world-class compressor that not only saves energy, but also provides enhanced comfort and value by virtue of its low noise output and compact design.

In India, the energy demand-and-supply gap is widening every day. There is an acknowledged annual energy shortage of eight percent in India, which increases during peak periods to 11 percent. Air conditioners are recognized as a major consumer of energy during the peak period. As electricity rates in India rise, the Copeland Scroll™ compressors powering higher star-rated air conditioners will provide some much needed relief to the users’ electricity expenses. The Copeland Scroll™ compressors powering 3, 4, and 5-star air conditioners offer energy savings of over 20% compared to typical compressor technologies. For commercial 2-ton air conditioner users, the Copeland Scroll™ powered 5-star air conditioners will be even more valuable since the electricity tariff in India is almost double for commercial users compared to residential in major cities. The Copeland Scroll™ compressors are capable of providing 5-star energy efficiency not only today, but also in 2014 when the star-labeling standards are expected to be higher.

Copeland Scroll™ technology has an established 20-year track record and is successfully used in many residential, commercial and institutional applications around the world.  With the broadest product line in the industry, Copeland Scroll™ compressors are installed in more than 80 million locations globally.  According to Mr. Shrikant Bapat, Managing Director, Emerson Climate Technologies (India) Ltd., “Copeland Scroll™ compressors have built a reputation for delivering improved efficiency, reliability and sound performance.  These compressors have been widely valued the world over and we are committed to providing the same level of excellence and product satisfaction to our partners and customers in India.  As a company that has innovation at its heart, we are extremely pleased to see Copeland Scroll™ compressors being widely adopted by our OEMs. We believe this technology will help the Indian consumers in the home and small office segment to take advantage of reduced operating costs.”

With Copeland Scroll™ products, Emerson Climate Technologies is supporting the industry through the transition to more energy-efficient air conditioning systems, as well as environment-friendly refrigerants such as R410A.  In order to fulfill its contribution to Montreal protocol, India will reduce the usage of non-ozone friendly refrigerants, and Copeland Scroll™ compressors designed for R410A will be made available in the India market later this year. Emerson is committed to developing products for a range of environment-friendly refrigerants, and is producing the broadest line of R410A-compatible scrolls in the world.
