EMERSON CLIMATE TECHNOLOGIES
PUBLISHES PAPER ON THE MEASURES OF REFRIGERATION SYSTEM
PERFORMANCE
White
Paper Introduces New, More Representative Measure for
Refrigeration Applications
ST. LOUIS, December 21, 2007 –
Emerson Climate Technologies, a business of Emerson (NYSE:
EMR), announced today that the company has published a white
paper for the commercial refrigeration industry. This paper,
Annual Energy Efficiency
Ratio: A Better Measure of Refrigeration System Performance,
is the next white paper in Emerson Climate Technologies’
ongoing campaign to promote good industry policies and
practices. It addresses the industry’s need for a more
representative measure for refrigeration system performance.
“Our industry currently has measures in place to calculate
the performance of commercial refrigeration systems;
however, none of these measures fully address the various
conditions that impact refrigeration systems,” said Rajan
Rajendran, director of applications engineering for Emerson
Climate Technologies, Inc., Refrigeration Division. “With
the introduction of the Annual Energy Efficiency Ratio (AEER),
Emerson Climate Technologies is proposing a new measure that
truly addresses the industry’s needs.”
This white paper reviews the benefits and pitfalls of the
Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER), the existing method for
measuring the efficiency of refrigeration. The paper then
introduces AEER, a new method that more accurately measures
how a refrigeration system actually operates. Unlike EER,
AEER takes seasonality into account, by analyzing a weighted
average performance for a refrigeration system, using
varying condensing temperatures tied to the actual weather
data for a specific location.
Annual Energy Efficiency Ratio: A Better Measure of
Refrigeration System Performance
illustrates the positive impact of encouraging AEER
measurement usage on the refrigeration industry as a whole.
It provides an informative case study demonstrating EER
versus AEER compressor evaluations and offers detailed
appendices with term definitions, calculations and
equations. Those interested in downloading this white paper
