ST. LOUIS, Sept 12, 2007 – Today
Emerson Climate Technologies, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR),
introduced its innovative Modular Refrigerant Leak Detection Sensor
(MRLDS). The MRLDS is the retail industry’s first refrigerant leak
detector to use patented photoacoustic technology, which eliminates
pumps, filters, and pneumatic tubing.
As government regulations become more
demanding and refrigerant continues to become more expensive, investing
in an effective refrigerant leak detection system is critical - both
from a code compliance and a financial perspective. MRLDS helps
retailers stay compliant with building and environmental codes by
detecting refrigerant leaks.
Many refrigerant leak detectors are
multi-zone systems that use a pump to draw a sample from a zone and
solenoid valves cycle through each available zone. While cost efficient
for large facilities, this may result in the detection of a leak being
delayed by up to 15 minutes. Pump failures, regular calibrations, and
filter changes also increase the required maintenance cost for these
units. However the MRLDS’s diffusion based technology uses normal air
circulation to detect refrigerant leaks, eliminating clogged filters or
the chance of water being drawn into the system. Diffusion technology
also means worries about clogged or cut pneumatic tubing are a thing of
the past. Its state-of-the-art algorithms also guard against false
alarms generated from cleaning chemicals and propane powered floor
buffers. Available with both Modbus and analog voltage connections,
MRLDS is an easy retrofit for many metal-oxide sensors and offers low
installed cost for new facilities.
“The new MRLDS represents the latest in
refrigerant leak detection technology, further delivering on Emerson’s
commitment to safeguard food and protect the environment,” said Bill
Coulombe, president of Emerson’s Retail Solutions group.
As part of Emerson’s Intelligent Store™
architecture, leak concentrations are communicated to the E2 Facility
Management System. With this connection, Emerson’s ProAct® Service
Center may remotely investigate a facility and even dispatch service
technicians. The E2 controller may also send an e-mail alert to service
providers or other monitoring services for prompt attention. The
Intelligent Store architecture is an integrated suite of products and
services that brings retail operators a new level of sophistication to
their operations. When combined, these innovative Emerson Climate
Technologies products and services are proven to reduce maintenance,
energy and other operational costs. Also included in the Intelligent
Store architecture are the Control Link™ device controllers, Electronic
Stepper Regulator (ESR) valves, Intelligent Store Discus® compressors,
select Lennox® rooftop units, and other third-party devices. For more
