EMERSON EXPANDS MANUFACTURING CAPACITY FOR COPELAND SCROLL™ COMPRESSORS TO MEET GROWING DEMAND

New Copeland Scroll facility in Mexico will strengthen Emerson’s global compressor manufacturing network and help meet growing demand for Copeland Scroll technology

ST. LOUIS, June 7, 2006 – Emerson Climate Technologies, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR), today announced that it has broken ground on a Copeland Scroll™ compressor assembly facility in Reynosa, Mexico. This investment represents Emerson’s commitment to be positioned to meet the growing demand for energy-efficient air conditioning systems powered by Copeland Scroll technology.

The Reynosa facility, which is expected to be operational by the second half of 2007, will further expand Emerson’s capacity to manufacture its world-leading Copeland Scroll compressors for the North American residential air conditioning market. The new facility will meet the needs of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with manufacturing facilities located in Mexico and the United States.

“With the addition of the facility in Reynosa, we are strengthening our existing global scroll manufacturing network and continuing to take steps to meet the growing demand for scroll technology,” said Tom Bettcher, an Emerson executive vice president and business leader of Emerson Climate Technologies. “Copeland Scroll compressors offer the best solution for industry challenges, such as the 13 SEER regulation, and will become an increasingly important technology for OEMs and contractors as we approach the 2010 phase-out of R-22 refrigerant.”

With the new Reynosa location, Emerson Climate Technologies will significantly expand its manufacturing capability and continue a strategy of locating facilities near its customers and suppliers. This strategy allows Emerson to meet its customers’ product needs in a more cost-effective and timely manner, while providing superior customer service and applications support.

“Adding new manufacturing capacity in northern Mexico provides logistics and cost advantages, as the facility will be located closer to both customers and key suppliers,” said Scott Barbour, president of Emerson’s Copeland Air Conditioning division. “We have also made a large investment to expand our Ava and Lebanon facilities in Missouri, to meet increased demand and to support the new Reynosa facility with machined components.”

The Reynosa facility will also be the first North American Copeland facility to house both compressor assembly and motor assembly within the same building. Emerson has successfully employed this approach in its Rayong, Thailand and Suzhou, China Copeland Scroll compressor operations. Emerson Climate Technologies also manufactures Copeland Scroll compressors in Lebanon, Mo.; Natchitoches, La.; Cookstown, Northern Ireland; and Welkenraedt, Belgium.
