EMERSON CLIMATE TECHNOLOGIES INTRODUCES ONLINE ENERGY RESOURCE FOR REFRIGERATION EQUIPMENT MANUFACTURERS

ST. LOUIS, May 8, 2006 – Emerson Climate Technologies, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR), today introduced an online energy resource for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) of refrigeration equipment. The website (EmersonClimate.com/energy) provides access to all of Emerson’s energy-efficient refrigeration information, including information on the regulations imposed by both the ENERGY STAR® program and the California Energy Commission.

According to Rob Lehman, director of Emerson’s Design Services Network, the production and use of energy has become an increasingly important topic in the United States, with environmental, social, political and economic implications. “A substantial amount of energy is used each year to power commercial refrigeration equipment in restaurants, grocery stores, convenience stores and fast-food establishments. As a result, there are legal standards in place that limit allowable energy consumption, both at the state and national level – and these standards are becoming stricter each year. Manufacturers of all commercial refrigeration equipment need to be aware of these standards and must prepare their products to meet these increasingly stringent standards,” Lehman said.

Emerson’s white paper, The State of Energy Consumption for Commercial Refrigeration, is available via the online resource. The white paper provides a detailed look at the consumption of electricity by refrigeration equipment in foodservice industries; the current status of regulation of this consumption; and technologies available to reduce the demand for this increasingly limited resource. Also explained in this paper are California Energy Commission regulations and the Energy Policy Act of 2005.

The online resource also gives OEMs access to Emerson’s energy calculator, which allows refrigeration designers and OEM engineers to design a rack of compressors and calculate the rack’s energy efficiency; the “Reach-In of the Future” concept, which illustrates how Emerson Climate Technologies™ products can increase equipment life and improve energy efficiency by over 25 percent; and a link to Design Services Network, a division of Emerson that is licensed to perform testing of commercial refrigeration and freezer equipment.

“Regulations are constantly changing and can be very confusing, because they differ from state to state. This online resource was developed to be the one place OEMs can go to stay on top of the energy issues and regulations that will affect the design and sale of their products,” said Lehman. “Emerson Climate Technologies will continue to update this site as new products are developed and as regulations affecting the refrigeration industry change, so that OEMs can take advantage of all the solutions that are available to them.”
