EMERSON ACQUIRES LEADING VARIABLE-SPEED DRIVE COMPANY
ST. LOUIS, January 23, 2006 – Emerson (NYSE: EMR) today announced the acquisition of Saftronics by its Control Techniques division. Fort Myers, Florida-based Saftronics is a leading provider of drives and drives systems for both industrial and commercial applications. The company’s products are used in a wide range of applications, including the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) industry.
Control Techniques works very closely with Emerson Climate Technologies to develop variable-speed drive technology for use in commercial air conditioning and refrigeration applications. According to Emerson Executive Vice President Tom Bettcher, the acquisition of Saftronics will strengthen Control Techniques’ position in the HVACR market and allow it to grow its customer base.
“Saftronics will support and enhance the drives and drives-system portfolio of our Control Techniques division,” said Bettcher. “There are already great synergies that exist between the two companies, including complementary products, a knowledge of variable-speed drive applications and product expertise that will become increasingly important as Control Techniques continues its growth in the HVACR industry.”
Former Saftronics chief operating officer, Todd Jackson, remains with the company as the newly-named president of Control Techniques Americas. According to Jackson, the acquisition by Emerson will offer new opportunities to the company. “With the financial strength of Emerson behind us, Control Techniques and Saftronics will be able to offer new levels of leading-edge technology, product development and customer support to the HVACR industry,” he said. “We’re extremely pleased to join the Emerson family, and we’re looking forward to integrating our solutions with those currently offered by the company.”
Saftronics will showcase its products in booth 5116 at the AHR (Air-Conditioning Heating Refrigeration) Expo, to be held January 23 to 26, 2006, at McCormick Place in Chicago. The booth is adjacent to the Emerson Climate Technologies booth (# 5010).
