New Comfort Alert commercial product protects compressor from miswire and improves system reliability

ST. LOUIS, January 23, 2006 – Emerson Climate Technologies, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR), announced today that AAON will install Emerson’s commercial Comfort Alert™ Diagnostics in its three-phase commercial air conditioning equipment. The partnership makes the new commercial Comfort Alert a standard component in AAON’s D-Box packaged rooftop commercial units and will be expanded to other product lines throughout the year.

According to Karl Zellmer, vice president of sales for Emerson’s Copeland Corporation, Comfort Alert significantly improves reliability by protecting the Copeland Scroll™ compressor from common compressor-damaging faults. “Emerson Climate Technologies worked closely with AAON to bring the three-phase commercial product to market,” said Zellmer. “AAON’s customers depend on them to provide products of the highest quality and performance. Comfort Alert Diagnostics will help AAON to further achieve that goal.”

The new three-phase commercial Comfort Alert delivers added reliability and protection, with distinctive new features specifically designed with commercial systems – and their end-users – in mind. New features include the ability to detect missing-phase and reverse-phase conditions, locking out the compressor until the wiring has been corrected. The commercial Comfort Alert also has an anti-short-cycling feature built in to prevent continuous start/stop of the system.

Introduced in 2003 as part of Emerson’s UltraTech Home Series™ offering, Comfort Alert Diagnostics is the first technology of its kind for monitoring and analyzing data on system performance. The award-winning innovation uses the Copeland Scroll compressor as a sensor to diagnose system faults. Installing Comfort Alert in the outdoor unit guides the service technician more quickly and accurately to the root cause of a problem. Launched first for single-phase residential applications, Comfort Alert has proven to improve diagnostic accuracy and reduce callbacks by over 50 percent. The commercial module also features Active Protection, which locks the compressor out during potentially harmful system faults, helping to protect the compressor from damage.
