EMERSON CLIMATE TECHNOLOGIES EXPANDS COMFORT ALERT™ DIAGNOSTICS PRODUCT LINE
Offers new built-in communication capability, expanded troubleshooting features
and active load control of the two-stage Copeland Scroll UltraTech™ compressor
ST. LOUIS, August 15, 2005 – Emerson Climate Technologies, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR), today introduced the second generation of Comfort Alert™ Diagnostics. The new product builds on the first-to-market technology of the award-winning original by elevating the level of diagnostics, communication, and reliability.
Introduced in 2003 as part of Emerson’s UltraTech™ Home Series, Comfort Alert Diagnostics is the first technology of its kind for troubleshooting residential heat pumps and air conditioning systems. By monitoring and analyzing data on system performance, it guides technicians quickly and accurately to the root cause of a problem and can improve diagnostic accuracy by 60 percent. Installed in an outdoor unit electrical box, the Comfort Alert can diagnose a variety of compressor and system problems.
The next generation of Comfort Alert Diagnostics allows contractors to further improve diagnostic troubleshooting accuracy and service speed by using the Copeland Scroll™ compressor as a sensor for system faults. Its built-in communication capability improves system reliability by delivering fault codes to the White-Rodgers 1F95CA and 1F85CA thermostats, protecting the compressor when severe, compressor-damaging faults are detected. The advanced diagnostics of the next generation of Comfort Alert also enables better control of two stage systems where Copeland Scroll UltraTech™ compressors are used.
“By itself, Comfort Alert Diagnostics is a powerful device that can analyze compressor performance to pinpoint the root cause of system-related failures,” said Scott Barbour, president Copeland Air Conditioning. “Now, with built-in communications and expanded troubleshooting capabilities, Comfort Alert can improve reliability, which is one of the most important needs of homeowners. This is also an important innovation for contractors. With the transition to 13 SEER, energy efficiency will no longer be the main selling point; making it harder to differentiate equipment. Comfort Alert will help differentiate premium equipment by helping contractors offer better reliability and peace-of-mind to homeowners.”
A 2005 Emerson homeowner survey identified reliability as a key need of homeowners. In addition, in a recent Emerson contractor survey, 88 percent of residential contractors agreed that Comfort Alert will help differentiate deluxe versus standard equipment and offer additional value to the homeowner.
"Comfort Alert delivers important benefits for both contractors and homeowners," said Bob Feathers, owner HVAC Specialties, president of CARE, and 2003 HVAC Instructor Of The Year. "It enables contractors to easily identify system problems, while giving homeowners peace-of-mind knowing that problems with their system will get fixed quickly and accurately."
Comfort Alert Diagnostics and Copeland Scroll UltraTech™ were recently recognized for excellence in product design in the first annual Dealer Design Awards program sponsored by The Air Conditioning Heating & Refrigeration News magazine.
Currently, there are more than 100,000 Comfort Alert Diagnostics installed in residential cooling systems, including systems manufactured by Armstrong, Lennox, Nordyne, Rheem and York. For more information on Comfort Alert Diagnostics, visit www.emersonclimatecontractor.com.
