EMERSON CLIMATE TECHNOLOGIES’ COPELAND®DIGITAL SCROLL™ FEATURED IN CHINA’S LARGEST CENTRAL AIR CONDITIONING PROJECT

Copeland®Digital Scroll™ technology will power nearly 3,000 outdoor units in China’s Advanced Business Park

ST. LOUIS, May 18, 2005 – Emerson Climate Technologies, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR), recently announced that its Copeland®Digital Scroll™ technology will help power the largest central air conditioning project ever awarded in China

In partnership with Samsung Electronics, Emerson Climate Technologies is providing its  Copeland®Digital Scroll™ compressors to power nearly 3,000 outdoor central air conditioning units being installed at the new Advanced Business Park (ABP) in Beijing. Each Samsung unit is also equipped with one or more standard Copeland®Scroll compressors. The business park in Beijing’s Fengtai district will be home to about 1,000 medium to large companies in 500 stand-alone buildings, as well as five-star hotels, apartments and technology transfer centers. The Samsung installation also includes more than 13,122 indoor central air conditioning units.

Developers selected Samsung’s DVM™ Plus central air conditioner featuring Emerson’s Digital Scroll™ technology from several applicants based on its design and performance after a series of competitive trials.

Before awarding the contract, Dauphin Science Business Park Construction & Development Co. Ltd., the developer for the Advanced Business Park project, conducted a technical evaluation of available technologies for central air conditioning systems. The Samsung unit with Emerson’s Digital Scroll™ compressor was selected following a rigorous three-month field test to verify energy savings and performance.

Copeland®Digital Scroll™ offers air-conditioning OEMs an innovative way to adjust the capacity of the compressor from 10 to 100 percent, so that the air conditioner capacity output precisely matches the changing room demand. This approach has shown to be as much as 40 percent more efficient than traditional methods of climate control and is capable of holding a precise temperature to plus or minus half a degree. Emerson first introduced Copeland®Digital Scroll™ compressors to Asia in 2001.

Today, there are nearly 50 million Copeland®Scroll compressors installed in residential and commercial air conditioning and commercial refrigeration systems around the world.
