EMERSON CLIMATE TECHNOLOGIES™ ENABLES SIGNIFICANT ENERGY SAVINGS FOR CVS/PHARMACY STORES

Emerson’s integrated facility management technology proves its value for nation’s leading retail pharmacy

ST. LOUIS, April 22, 2005 – Emerson Climate Technologies™, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR), today announced that its E2 Facility Management System has been installed in approximately 3,000 retail facilities, restaurants, supermarkets and convenience stores worldwide since its introduction in 2003.

Emerson’s E2 Facility Management System is an electronic control system that integrates the control of all lighting, refrigeration and HVAC equipment for a store location – and enables multiple stores to be monitored from a central location. Retailers can collect and analyze data for individual stores and the entire network and act quickly to improve equipment performance and energy efficiency. The technology enables retail store chains to reduce their annual energy and maintenance expenses across a network of stores by 15 percent or more.

CVS/pharmacy is one of several national retailers that are installing E2 systems to more efficiently monitor and manage energy consumption within their facilities. More than 350 CVS/pharmacy stores now use the E2 system, and the pharmacy retailer plans to continue incrementally upgrading to the E2 system at both its existing and new stores. CVS/pharmacy operates more than 5,000 stores across the United States.

“Working with Emerson Climate Technologies, we are optimizing our energy management strategies while maintaining or improving comfort conditions at our stores,” said Mark Thibodeau, director of energy management for CVS/pharmacy. “Our use of Emerson’s facility management system ensures that we are achieving energy savings and helps us identify opportunities to further reduce energy consumption.”

The E2 system is designed, manufactured and installed by the Computer Process Controls (CPC) division of Emerson Climate Technologies. This Emerson business is a leading provider of electronic refrigeration and building environmental control systems. CPC controllers have been installed in approximately 17,000 facilities worldwide.

“Before employing the Emerson system, CVS/pharmacy relied on independent contractors to set up and maintain corporate operating parameters for energy efficiency and maintenance,” said Emerson Executive Vice President Tom Bettcher, business leader for Emerson Climate Technologies. “By taking direct control of all environmental settings and maintaining them within corporate guidelines along with remote access to diagnose system issues, CVS/pharmacy is able to drive enterprise-wide savings.”
