EMERSON CLIMATE TECHNOLOGIES WINS 2005 AHR EXPO® INNOVATION AWARD FOR NEXT GENERATION OF COPELAND SCROLL™

Two other Emerson divisions, Design Services Network and White-Rodgers, receive honorable mentions

ST. LOUIS, January 19, 2005 – Emerson Climate Technologies, a business of Emerson (NYSE: EMR), today announced that its next generation of Copeland Scroll™ compressors has received the 2005 AHR Expo Innovation Award for technology innovation. The improved platform will be introduced at the 2005 International Air Conditioning, Heating, Refrigerating Expo (AHR Expo), February 7 – 9, in Orlando.

The industry award recognizes Emerson Climate Technologies for its innovative efforts to continually evolve scroll technology to advance the HVACR industry. With the new 13 SEER regulations less than one year away, the next generation of Copeland Scroll is ideal for helping manufacturers meet the higher efficiency standards and building contractors reputations with industry leading reliability.

We first introduced Copeland Scroll to the industry in 1987, and since then, have extended it to new refrigerants, modulation technology, and new markets.”

The next generation of Copeland Scroll builds upon Copeland’s tradition of industry leading compressor technologies. Optimized for 13 SEER, the enhanced compressor design delivers even better efficiency, reliability and sound. With 20 major design improvements and nine new patents pending, the next generation of Copeland Scroll increases the efficiency of the compressor by up to seven percent and reduces sound up to 50 percent. Improved temperature protection, enhanced bearing systems and standardized parts all further improve product quality and proven scroll reliability.

Emerson Climate Technologies also received honorable mention for its White-Rodgers thermostat with active protection, and its System Design Simulator software.

The new White-Rodgers thermostat, model 1F95CA,, is a three-in-one thermostat that provides a unique combination of homeowner comfort and improved system reliability. It controls temperature and humidity for maximum cooling efficiency and comfort. It also works with the Copeland Scroll UltraTech™ compressor and Comfort Alert™ Diagnostics to increase the efficiency of the system, reduce humidity, and help protect the compressor when severe, compressor-damaging faults are detected.

The System Design Simulator software, developed by Emerson’s Design Services Network, significantly reduces design time and need for repetitive and frequent laboratory testing by predicting the steady-state heating and cooling performance of vapor compression systems in a wide range of system configurations and operational variables. The software originates from the engineering model developed for the U.S. Department of Energy.

Designed to encourage product innovation within the industry, the AHR Expo Innovation Awards are jointly sponsored by the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE); the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI); and International Exposition Company (IEC). The winners were selected from among the products submitted by AHR Expo exhibitors in seven categories: Heating; Cooling; Refrigeration; Ventilation; Indoor Air Quality; Energy; and Instruments, Tools and Software.

David Boezi, vice president product planning for Copeland’s air conditioning division will accept the award on behalf of Emerson at the show on February 8.
