It is sometimes necessary to limit flow, or
maintain pressure, throughout a refrigeration system in order to achieve set
points or prevent a system from operating outside of it's operating
envelope.
Each of the regulator groups has a specific
function within a system. Hot Gas Valves maintain a minimum suction
pressure by means of by-passing discharge gas to the low side of the system.
Head-pressure control or Headmaster Valves maintain a constant minimum
pressure on the liquid in the receiver to ensure adequate pressure drop at
the Expansion Device.
Crankcase Pressure Regulators are generally
used to prevent compressor motor overload. By throttling the suction
gas flow during high load conditions, the compressor motor is permitted to
remain within current draw limitations.
The sole function of the Evaporator Pressure
Regulator is to prevent the Evaporator Pressure from falling below a
pre-determined pressure setting (controls a minimum evaporating
temperature).
