At 25, Emerson
Climate Technologies Middle East/Africa Leads
the Industry
1982. The year of the “Thriller” by Michael
Jackson. The year the Falklands War began. The
year Graceland was opened to the public. And the
year Copeland Corporation started selling into
the Middle East.
We have come a
long way since then.
From the beginning, Emerson’s business in the thriving,
expanding and prosperous Middle East has grown
as the region has grown. By getting in on the
entry level of the budding industry here,
Emerson has become a pillar of the local HVAC
industry by keeping up with the needs of our
customers. Emerson Climate Technologies is
globally recognized as a leader in technology,
customer and product support and business
integration. This is certainly the case when
talking about the Middle East. In short, Emerson
is proud to be a part of the Middle East and
proud of our strong and reliable partners, who
have grown with us in such a short time.
In the beginning,
Copeland® brand compressors formed the bulk of the sales into the Middle
East. Over the years the demand grew to include motors, controls and
other HVAC equipment that Emerson was ready to supply and support in
conjunction with our strong compressor presence. As the industry grew,
so did Emerson and we soon expanded to show our commitment to being a
part of this region.
In
October, 1991 Emerson Climate Technologies opened its first sales office
in the Middle East in Dubai. The local market responded. Emerson was the
first global HVAC supplier to start up operations in the Middle East and
it paid immediate benefits. Being on the ground with the customers every
day helped identify opportunities and weaknesses that we were able to
address. Our sales showed the positive results of this mutually
beneficial presence, which was unique in the marketplace.
In 2003, we opened our
local production facility to provide Integrated Products, led by our
semi-hermetic condensing units, into local manufacture in Dubai. Our
local partners quickly responded to the advantages of local procurement.
Sales of locally manufactured units grew and in 2004, the Distribution
Center was launched, offering new ways to support our customers and
helping us grow our business once again.
Emerson’s localization
was not just in product but also in support. Our local presence has
grown from 4 people in Dubai at the turn of the century to over 40
people working full time to support our Middle East customers across the
region today. Direct sales into the Middle East from our manufacturing
locations around the world continue to grow at a tremendous rate thanks
to our expanding local support. Emerson is proud to have sold nearly 1.5
million hermetic compressors into the region to support our OEM’s in the
air conditioning business alone. That is just one example of the many
product successes in the Middle East marketplace.
As we look to the
future, our vision for expansion remains bright. We are now the industry
leader in the Middle East with Copeland Scroll® technology bringing the
global standard for performance and reliability to air conditioning and
refrigeration users in the Middle East. We are expanding the reach of
our Integrated Products offering to include products using hermetic and
scroll compressors. Plus, we are expanding our customers’ product range
with local production of large chiller units and water cooled units.
This is just the
beginning. We have many new offerings currently on the fast track for
release into local production. Additionally, our MEA distribution center
is adding huge amounts of Emerson Climate Technologies products every
year. For example, 2008 alone is scheduled to see an increase of over
400% in the product line offering managed in Dubai. Our hunger for local
top notch customer support is never ending as we expand our base out of
Dubai with local support now in South Africa and Saudi Arabia.
Our goal at Emerson
Climate Technologies is to continue to set the standard that others
strive to match. We at Emerson Climate Technologies Middle East/Africa
are determined to be there when our customers need us. Whatever their
need, they can consider it solved.
